Description

David Fry is specialising in rich, rare and beautiful Chinese and Japanese stoneware glazes. He developed a Lang-Yao or Red Flambe, a rich Blue Flambe, a Blue Jun, a Green Caledon and a gold Shino. On some pieces he overlays two or three glazes, all with their own characteristics, not two pieces come out the same. The kiln he uses is is also his own design, fired with a single burner. On some of his work there are simle impressed motifs. The fish design he uses comes from both the early Chinese Sung wares (the twin fish motif is the symbol for good luck and marital bliss) and motifs he found impressed in 14th Century English pots that he excavated on the site of his present studio.
