Edmund De Waal
Primary Type of Art: Ceramics
Description
Edmund De Waal was born in Nottingham. At The King's School, Canterbury, De Waal was taught pottery by Geoffery Whiting, a disciple of Bernard Leach. He came to Trinity College, Cambridge to read English. Having lived and worked in Japan, his work follows the Anglo-Oriental tradition and is world renowned.
In his current work he has moved away from making single objects to the production of groups of pots relating to the space in which they are placed. Most of this work consists of cylindrical porcelain pots with pale celadon glazes. He has exhibited his ceramic installations in Kettle's Yard, Tate Britain and the Victoria and Albert Museum. He lives and works in London and has recently published a family memoir.
